Elopements,

5 Best Spots For Your Grand Teton Wedding (or Elopement)

Grand Teton National Park is easily one of the most stunning elopement backdrops in the U.S. — but what I love most about it isn’t just the views. It’s the variety. You can have an alpine sunrise one minute and a golden meadow at sunset the next. You can say your vows on a quiet lake shore or pull off at a turnout with the mountains towering behind you. Basically what I’m trying to say is this: your gallery is going to be fucking epic here.

As a Grand Teton elopement photographer, I recently spent hours scouting, shooting, and exploring every corner of this park’s “famous locations”. Below are some of my favorite spots for couples who want a Teton elopement that feels wild, adventurous, and a little bit personal — not just the postcard version everyone else gets.

P.s. head to this blog to see everything you need to know to plan an elopement (or wedding) in the Grand Tetons!

5 Locations For Your Grand Teton Wedding (Or Elopement) (Or Whatever Else You Want To Do)

1. Cascade Canyon Turnout

If you want that “we’re standing in front of the mountains” moment, this one delivers every single time.

Cascade Canyon Turnout sits right along Teton Park Road and gives you an unobstructed, panoramic view of the range. It’s a popular stop, but sunrise changes everything — the air is still, the light is soft, and you might only share it with a few elk grazing in the distance.

This spot is perfect for couples who want the mountains without the hike. There’s no long trail to worry about, so you can bring guests, accessibility needs, or even a cute picnic setup without stress.

Best time of day: Sunrise
Best for: Easy access, wide mountain views, quiet early-morning vows

2. Jenny Lake

Jenny Lake is one of the most famous places in Grand Teton, and for good reason. It’s where the mountains meet the water in the most dramatic way possible.

It can definitely get busy, but if you plan around the crowds, it’s an absolute dream. Early mornings or weekdays are your best friend here. The main overlook gives you that perfect reflection shot, but there are smaller coves and trails nearby that feel much more private.

If you’re up for a little adventure, you can even rent a small boat or hike the Jenny Lake Trail for a few minutes to find your own quiet corner (highly recommend).

Best time of day: Sunrise or weekday mornings
Best for: Water reflections, mountain backdrops, and a mix of iconic + intimate views

3. String Lake to Leigh Lake Trail

For couples who want something more secluded, String Lake and the short trail leading to Leigh Lake are a local favorite (and honestly, I agree!).

It’s peaceful, surrounded by pine trees, and has a slower, more intimate energy than some of the park’s busier spots. There’s a small bridge that’s perfect for a first look or private vows, and the stillness of the lake gives your photos this calm, romantic feeling that’s hard to beat.

You’ll get hints of the mountains in the background, but this area is more about reflection and serenity — a beautiful contrast to the rugged peaks.

Best time of day: Mid-morning or golden hour

Best for: Private vows, quiet exploration, couples who want that mix of forest + the lake

4. Mountain View Turnout

You really can’t have a bad view anywhere in the Tetons, but Mountain View Turnout earns its name.

If Cascade Canyon is the perfect sunrise spot, Mountain View Turnout is its sunset twin. The evening light hits the peaks just right, washing everything in warm golds and pinks. It’s easy to pull over, there’s plenty of space for small ceremonies or portraits, and the open field gives you tons of creative options for framing the mountains behind you.

Best time of day: Sunset
Best for: Golden-hour ceremonies, wide-open views, minimal logistics

5. Schwabacher Landing

Ah, Schwabacher Landing — the classic Teton postcard.

It’s stunning. There’s a beaver pond, the Tetons perfectly reflect in the still water, and cottonwoods all around. But it’s also packed. The narrow trail makes it tricky to find privacy, especially around sunrise or sunset when photographers (like me) flock there.

So here’s my honest take: visit Schwabacher Landing, but don’t plan your ceremony there. Instead, add it to your “day before” or “day after” photo list. It’s the perfect location for portraits or an engagement session before your elopement day.

Best time of day: Sunrise (for light + fewer people)
Best for: Portraits, couple photos, day-before exploring

My Honest Tips As A Grand Teton Elopement Photographer…

  • Sunrise beats sunset. The park gets busy fast, so if you want privacy, start early. The morning light here is soft and moody — perfect for cinematic photos.
  • Plan for wildlife + weather. Bison, moose, and elk are common (and adorable), but give them space. The weather changes fast — layers are your friend.
  • Mix and match your locations. Want mountain views and lake reflections? Start your day at Cascade Canyon Turnout, then end it with sunset portraits at String Lake.
  • Bring snacks + water. The park is huge, and once you’re out exploring, there aren’t many stops for food or water.

Leave No Trace in the Tetons

Grand Teton National Park is incredibly special — and fragile. Whether you’re saying your vows, celebrating with guests, or just taking portraits, please follow Leave No Trace principles.

  • Stay on established paths
  • Don’t trample wildflowers (even for the perfect shot)
  • Pack out everything you bring
  • Respect wildlife and other visitors

The more we take care of this place, the more couples can experience it just like you will, untouched and breathtaking.

Planning Your Teton Elopement

Once you’ve picked your dream location, it’s time to think through the logistics:

  • Permits: You’ll need a special use permit from the National Park Service.
  • Seasons: Summer and early fall are most accessible; late fall and winter can bring closures or limited parking.
  • Accessibility: Many turnouts are drive-up friendly, while lake trails may require short walks.

If you’re not sure where to start, that’s where I come in. I help couples plan intentional, stress-free elopements that fit their story, not a template.
