Georgia is a treasure trove of beauty year-round, so when it comes to picking a wedding date, every season has something magical to offer for your photos! From spring blooms to rich autumn colors, and from mild winters to those classic Southern summers, the time of year you choose can bring its own color palette, lighting, and atmosphere to your day. As a Georgia wedding photographer, I’ve seen so many beautiful weddings year round. So, let’s talk about which season might suit your celebration best – depending on what you’re looking for.

Spring Weddings in Georgia

Georgia in the spring is an explosion of color, with mild temperatures and gorgeous sunlight. It’s no wonder that spring tends to be one of my busiest times of year. Springtime in Georgia usually hits its stride from late March to early June.

Pros:

  • Natural Beauty & Colors: Spring is all about fresh pastels and rich greens. With azaleas, cherry blossoms, and dogwoods coming into full bloom, you’ll have the perfect backdrop for romantic, vibrant photos.
  • Perfect Light: Early evening light in spring is soft, creating a warm glow that flatters every skin tone and brings out the lush colors.
  • Comfortable Temperatures: The temperatures range from the mid-60s to the low 80s, keeping things comfy for your guests and looking fresh all day.

Cons:

  • Rain Risk: Spring showers are common in Georgia. They can add a dreamy, misty vibe but make sure you have a rain plan to keep things on track.
  • Pollen: High pollen counts mean sneezes and sniffles for some, and keeping dresses and decor pollen-free can take a little extra attention.

Check the sunset time for your wedding day to take full advantage of spring’s gorgeous golden hour! And if you’re worried about rain, look for a venue with indoor and outdoor options to keep everything flexible.

Summer Weddings in Georgia

Summer in Georgia brings long days, bright sunlight, and plenty of lush greenery. If you’re envisioning vibrant colors and outdoor celebrations, summer is your season! June through August are the classic months, though Southern summers tend to last well into September!

Pros:

  • Longer Daylight Hours: Summer gives you more time for all the photos! The extended daylight is ideal for sunset shots and golden-hour lighting.
  • Vibrant Greenery: Trees, grass, and fields are at their greenest, creating an earthy, rich backdrop.
  • Bold Blooms in Season: Think roses, sunflowers, and bright colors that pop, adding a festive, energetic vibe to your photos.

Cons:

  • Heat and Humidity: Georgia summers are almost guaranteed to be intense, with temperatures soaring above 90-100°F. Wedding outfits can get uncomfortable, people will be sweating through their makeup, and they’ll need to have air-conditioned spaces with plenty of cold drinks available.
  • Thunderstorms: Afternoon storms can roll in quickly, though they’re usually brief.
  • Insects: Mosquitoes can be a hassle, especially around water. So it’s worth thinking about some bug repellent for you and your guests. I’ve also seen people have the property itself treated, which is a fantastic idea if you have the option.

Late afternoon or evening ceremonies can help you avoid the midday heat. Providing fans, shade tents, or a cool-down station can also make things more comfortable, keeping everyone happy and ready for photos.

Fall Weddings in Georgia

Autumn — time for pumpkin spice, cozy sweaters, and some of the most breathtaking backdrops! Fall weddings are heckin’ popular, absolutely my most busy season, and for all the best reasons. The season runs from October to early November, bringing milder weather and stunning foliage.

Pros:

  • Ideal Temperatures: Early fall offers warmth without the summer intensity, and by late fall, you get that perfect, crisp air.
  • Gorgeous Foliage: Reds, oranges, and yellows make for dreamy photos that feel rich and dramatic.
  • Golden Light: Fall’s sunlight has a unique warmth to it that casts a beautiful glow, adding a cozy feel to the whole day.

Cons:

  • High Demand: Fall weddings are extremely popular, so venues and vendors can book up quickly. Planning well in advance is key!
  • Shorter Days: With less daylight, timing is everything to capture those outdoor shots.

Book your venue and key vendors early, and aim for an afternoon ceremony to make the most of the daylight. Adding cozy elements, like warm blankets or fire pits, can keep guests comfortable and add to the seasonal vibe.

Winter Weddings in Georgia

While winter might not be the most obvious season for a Georgia wedding, it brings its own special charm. Winters here are mild compared to other parts of the country, and a winter wedding can feel intimate and unique. Plus you get the bonus of unique color palettes!

Pros:

  • Mild Temperatures: Georgia winters are more of a gentle chill than a freezing cold, making them perfect for couples who want to avoid the heat. {Most of my couples are self-described “sweaters” so winter has become increasingly popular with my folks!}
  • Soft, Diffused Light: Winter light is gentle and diffused, ideal for creating moody, romantic photos without harsh shadows.
  • Lower Demand: Fewer people get married in the winter, so you may have an easier time booking your dream venue and vendors.

Cons:

  • Limited Flowers: There are fewer flowers in bloom naturally, but winter bouquets featuring greenery, dried flowers, and berries can be beautiful and unique.
  • Short Days: Early sunset means planning carefully to maximize natural light for your photos.
  • Possible Cold Snaps: While rare, a sudden cold front can add a little extra chill, so heaters outdoors and a backup indoor option is always smart.

Winter is a great time to look for venues with lots of windows and indoor charm to capture natural light, even indoors. You could also lean into the coziness with seasonal decor, like candles, twinkle lights, and plush textures, for a warm, welcoming feel.
