Colorado Anniversary Portraits // Sarah & Lucas
Sarah & Lucas got married in a backyard celebration in Savannah, GA on New Year’s Eve 2021 amid a lot of COVID-related chaos happening. It was a beautiful day, and, in the end, they were married. But, with all of the chaos happening, we didn’t get a chance to shoot their engagement session around Savannah as planned. Sarah & Lucas now live in Colorado, and we decided to have me come out to them for a belated anniversary session. Their portraits were amazing for so many reasons and I’m stoked we were able to make this work! I’ve always wanted to photograph a couple in Colorado, so it was really amazing to make everyone’s dreams come true with this anniversary session!
When we began planning their Colorado anniversary portraits, we knew we’d have lots of great options for the location. I was traveling out to them in May, which can be kind of a crap shoot for weather in Colorado. It could be snowing or summer weather. You really don’t know, so the potential for weather really played a part in choosing a location. We eventually chose Panorama Point at Golden Gate Canyon State Park because it’s a place they love visiting. It was important to us that we’d get the views they love there during our photos. Of course, the day I arrived had a freak storm that dumped a bunch of snow on the ground… but it all worked out in the end.

The day of their session, Sarah & Lucas brought their adorable fluffy dog Lola along for the adventure. She often travels with them and we wanted to capture everyone’s love of the land. It was amazing to watch the skylines change as we were there – the view we had when we arrived was not the same view we had when we left. Sarah & Lucas were such troopers – playing in the snow in their puffy jackets, and even brought some warm tea for us to enjoy. Honestly, the whole session really just screamed Colorado mountains and I couldn’t have loved it more. Sarah & Lucas agreed with me that it was important to showcase the rocks and Aspens in the area, so we worked together to find the most beautiful spots to bring out the elements of the space at Panorama Point that they loved so much.
Sarah & Lucas, thank you for bringing me out to Colorado and making my dreams come true! Your anniversary portraits were magical and I’m so happy we could bring your vision to life. Here’s to many more years of wedded bliss.
