Costco Portraits // Grace & Michael
A little while ago, I put out a call on Instagram and asked you all where my followers thought it would be SO tricky to get amazing shots. One of my favorite responses was Costco! The person who challenged me told me that they knew I had done a farmer’s market session and one at Trader Joe’s, but they thought Costco would be a great challenge. I was absolutely down to try. Around the same time, Grace & Michael connected with me to plan a “just because” portrait session. They happened to mention that they were huge Costco fans, and without question: our fate was sealed. We began planning their incredible “just because” Costco portraits – and I freaking love how they turned out.
I met Grace & Michael on a Saturday morning at the Brookhaven Costco shop in Atlanta. We specifically chose this Costco, because the front reminds me of a movie theatre and it’s just a lot of fun visually. I totally forgot that Costco opens early for business owners, so it was a bit busier than any of us expected. But, I’m all about situations that force me to be creative and come up with new solutions. Grace & Michael were amazing about it all – really willing to run around, look for cool spots, and dodge the people. We looked for small windows of time where we could be alone and got really creative with how we captured their Costco portraits.
I looked at this session like I look at all of them: watching for interesting light, colors, and layouts. Costco had some great options. Grace & Michael love their produce fridge, so we went there. And we celebrated their recent trip to Japan with a shot near the Ramen pallets. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better couple than Grace & Michael. They were absolutely amazing the entire time – and were even willing to head to a self-storage unit that was bright and colorful. When I drove to the Costco, I KNEW it was worth going there on the way back. I’m so thankful that Grace & Michael were willing to trust me. We truly had the best day.
This session was such a blast and reinforced my belief that we can get stellar photos ANYWHERE! When we chat about planning your session, don’t be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to activities or locations that are important to you two as a couple.
