Wanderlust Vows: My Destination Wedding Photography Policies & Plans

I love traveling for weddings and elopements. If you’re planning a destination wedding day, I want to go with you!  I’m always down for an adventure with my couples for their elopement or wedding day. If you’re thinking about a destination engagement or proposal, make sure to reach out about those too. Whatever makes you happiest on your big day, I’m there for it. In the last few years, I’ve flown to Italy, photographed weddings up and down the East Coast and throughout Georgia and Texas. Over the years, I’ve developed a system for traveling for your wedding day so that I’m ready to capture your most important moments.

Why Hire Me For Your Destination Wedding

If you’re traveling for your wedding day, you’re likely using a few local vendors {the venue, florist, maybe a planner} and you might be wondering why you’d want to bring your photographer with you. When you’re traveling to a new place for such a big event, it’s important to control what you can control. If you bring your photographer with you, you know someone there – and how they work. It means you’ll be more comfortable and you can just relax into the experience. Trust me, bringing a photographer that you vibe with is going to be one of the best decisions you can make for your destination wedding!

Destination Wedding Policies

When it comes to travel logistics, rest assured that I prioritize thorough planning and preparation. I include travel within 4 hours from Atlanta on my standard wedding packages. Some of my favorite spots for weddings within that radius are Asheville NC, Charlotte NC, Durham NC and Greenville. There’s so many beautiful venues and spots for your special day. Anything longer than that will require a day trip is where a travel fee will come into play. Depending on the exact distance, it’s likely that I will fly instead of drive. This helps ensure that I’m rested and ready to show up for you!

Travel for Destination Engagement Sessions

I typically handle flights in two different ways. If I’m flying in for your engagement session {which I will absolutely do!}, I’ll fly in the day of your session. My couples pick me up at the airport and we do our thing around town together. Our sessions are often more flexible and we can hit up more locations. After we’re done, I’ll fly back out and home to Atlanta.

Travel Plans for Destination Weddings

If I’m traveling to your wedding, I will always arrive at least 24 hours in advance {48 if shooting internationally}. This gives plenty of buffer time for canceled flights or whatever else the travel gods want to throw my way. This also allows me scouting time, if needed! All of this helps ensure we have a relaxing time together and can just focus on documenting your special event in the beautiful location you chose.

I keep my main camera bag on me at all times. As a mentor of mine once said in regards to being told she had to check this bag for a flight: “I’d put all of my cameras and lenses wrapped up in my shirt and hold them to my stomach if I had to.” They’re not leaving my side or my sight. This is where I keep my drop-proof water-proof memory card case, as well. It stays at my side always. All my flashes, batteries, and accessories are in a hard-side Pelican case built for traveling with media. When I prepare for destination weddings, I also scout out camera rental shops and Best Buy, in case the worst things might happen. It’s my job to be prepared for your big day – and I will be!
