Lifestyle Family Portraits in Atlanta // Mike, Amy, Van & Dex
As always, an utter delight getting to see this family again. Mike is a childhood friend of mine and I’m super grateful that we’ve reconnected as adults. Over the years, I’ve photographed him and his family several times, including Mike & Amy’s wedding and previous family portraits. It’s such a treat for me to watch them all grow up and change year to year. This year, we planned lifestyle family portraits in Atlanta featuring all of the cool things that the boys are into now and their incredible house.
Lifestyle Family Photos at Home
Every moment was a joy and an ultimate representation of Mike & Amy’s family throughout their session. We started off in the boys’ room, piling all of their stuffies on top of them in a chaotic whirlwind of giggles and flying characters. I absolutely loved watching them play and be silly with me. Then we braved the heat outside for a while in their backyard. They’ve got quite the setup – including an American Ninja Warrior inspired obstacle course.
When we needed a break, Van & Dex showed me their DnD dice collection and the maps they’ve been making for the family adventures they play. My goal on family sessions like this is to absolutely capture the overall feeling of a day in your life. I want to know what you’re into, what you do as a family, and how you spend your time together. That’s what makes lifestyle sessions so special.
Why I Love Lifestyle Sessions
Being at home also makes it easier for everyone to feel able to participate on their terms. At one point in our session, Van decided he was done. He even went into his room and placed a “NO” sign on the door. He told me he didn’t want any more photos. So I took time to hang out with Mike, Amy, & Dex. I don’t mind that Van wanted a break.
In fact, I want to encourage other parents reading this: it’s TOTALLY normal and encouraged. Kids are kids and need time to breathe and relax during our sessions. I plan for this and expect it. Don’t let that be something that makes you want to wait to schedule your next family portrait session! As you can see from Mike & Amy’s portraits, it didn’t slow us down at all. We still had a lot of fun and waited until he was ready to document more of their lives!
