Everything To Know About Planning Your Montaluce Winery Wedding

If you’re considering a Montaluce Winery wedding, there’s a reason this place keeps showing up on North Georgia venue lists. You get vineyard rows, mountain views, Tuscan-inspired architecture, on-site food and wine, and enough variety across the property that your whole wedding day can happen in one place without every part of it looking the same.

I photographed Melissa and Sam’s Montaluce wedding here, and their day had pretty much everything I love about this venue: a vineyard ceremony bathed in golden-hour light, time to actually enjoy the property, and a reception that kept going well into the night. So, along with sharing their day, I’m breaking down what I’d want you to know before planning your own wedding here.

Getting Ready Villas at Montaluce Winery

Melissa and Sam got ready in the on-site villas just up the hill before heading down to the vineyard for their ceremony. Afterward, we slipped away for portraits with their wedding party before everyone moved into the reception and the real party started.

There’s a particular kind of quiet that settles over Montaluce when the day is winding toward evening. The vineyard becomes this gorgeous golden color, your guests begin drifting toward the terrace with their wine, nobody rushing anywhere.

It’s one of those venues that genuinely changes the energy of the people in it. I’ve noticed that when couples choose a place like this, they tend to actually be present on their wedding day in a way that doesn’t always happen. And that presence is everything for documentary style photography.

What I Love Most About a Montaluce Winery Wedding Day

One little feature I absolutely love at Montaluce is the holding room available before the ceremony. Whether you want a quiet minute alone, a private moment with your partner, or somewhere to hang with your wedding party while guests arrive, having a separate space gives you somewhere to just be before everything kicks off.

And then there’s golden hour.

If you have any flexibility in your timeline, I highly recommend setting aside even 10 to 15 minutes for portraits just before sunset. Once the light starts dropping behind the North Georgia mountains, the vineyard completely changes. The vines start to glow, the hills soften, and suddenly almost every direction you turn gives you something beautiful to work with. Learn more about how to create a stress-free wedding day timeline.

Lastly, Montaluce has this natural slow-down-and-savor-it energy that I think is worth leaning into instead of fighting.

I always encourage couples to build some buffer time into the timeline. Whether that’s taking ten minutes alone after the ceremony, opting for a private dinner before heading into the reception or simply grabbing a glass of wine and enjoying the view before the dance floor gets chaotic.

Why Montaluce Stands Out for Vineyard Weddings in Georgia

If you specifically want a wedding venue in Dahlonega where the ceremony, portraits, dinner, and reception can all happen without bouncing between several locations, Montaluce makes that pretty damn easy.

Montaluce is more than a pretty backdrop for your wedding day. While, yes, the convenience of having everything you need contained within one estate is a huge perk, I think the most beautiful thing about this venue is that it makes Dahlonega feel a whole lot farther from Atlanta than it actually is.

5 Ceremony Locations at Montaluce Winery

One of the things that makes planning a Montaluce wedding feel so good is how many ceremony options you’re actually working with. Each one is genuinely beautiful in its own way.

1. The Vineyard Tree

This is probably the ceremony setting you picture first when you think about a Montaluce wedding. The Vineyard Tree sits on a grassy hill beneath an old oak tree and overlooks the vineyard. It gives you that classic outdoor North Georgia wine-country backdrop without needing much added to it.

This is where golden hour does some of its best work around sunset!

2. The Vineyard Overlook (Where Melissa and Sam held their ceremony!)

The Vineyard Overlook sits below the terrace and offers a more open ceremony setup with wide views of the surrounding vines and hills.

If you want the landscape to be the backdrop of your ceremony rather than a heavily styled installation, this is a really beautiful option.

3. Le Vigne Terrace

Le Vigne Terrace is a covered, open-air space connected to the main winery. It still overlooks the vineyard, so you keep that outdoor feeling while gaining a little more coverage from the elements.

This is perfect for the unpredictability of Georgia weather but also if you still really want to be outside.

4. Tuscany Terrace

The Tuscany Terrace that is located at the top of the venue gives you elevated views over the vineyard and pond.

This is a favorite ceremony spot if you’re planning a smaller wedding, micro wedding, or eloping (more about the difference between types of weddings here).  This location gives you something a little more intimate without sacrificing the views that make getting married at Montaluce so special.

5. Wine Production Room

This location is a completely different vibe from the outdoor spaces. It’s moodier, more atmospheric, and works beautifully with candles and intentional lighting.

Yes, it can work as a weather backup. But honestly, it’s cool enough that it does not need to feel like the consolation-prize option.

Reception Spaces at Montaluce Winery

Once the ceremony is over, the celebration can move pretty seamlessly through the property.

Depending on your wedding setup, your guests can head toward the bar or terrace for cocktail hour before moving into the reception space.

Le Vigne Room

Le Vigne Room is the main reception space at Montaluce and works well for larger weddings. Inside, you’ll find a spacious dining area, separate bar, fireplaces, large windows, and an open kitchen.

The adjacent terrace is often used for dancing, which gives you the best of both worlds: dinner inside, then an open-air feel once everyone is ready to party.

Tuscany Room

For smaller celebrations, the Tuscany Room gives you a more intimate setting at the top of the winery. It’s a natural fit for micro weddings, rehearsal dinners, or couples who want their reception to feel a little cozier.

And because Montaluce can handle food, bar service, and several logistical pieces in-house, hosting the ceremony and reception here can feel significantly less complicated than venues where you’re building the entire wedding infrastructure yourself.

Montaluce Winery Wedding Photography Tips

There are a lot of beautiful places to photograph at Montaluce, but my goal is not to drag you to every single one of them. I would much rather choose a few locations that make sense for your timeline and let you actually experience your wedding than spend half the evening speed-running the property for photos.

The villas can be great for getting-ready images and first looks because they’re a little more removed from the rest of the wedding-day activity.

Around the winery itself, the terraces and architecture give you something completely different from the vineyard, which means your final gallery gets variety without needing to travel anywhere.

The pond and vineyard areas are especially beautiful for quieter couple portraits. And then, obviously, there’s sunset.

If photography is important to you, I would plan your timeline backward from sunset and protect a small window around golden hour. You do not need a full hour of portraits. Even 10 or 15 intentional minutes can give you completely different light than we’ll have earlier in the day.

That’s one of the reasons I love photographing weddings at Montaluce. There’s plenty to work with, which means we can follow what your day is actually doing instead of constantly trying to manufacture something for the sake of the camera.

FAQs About Planning Your Own Montaluce Winery Wedding

How much does a Montaluce wedding cost?

Food and beverage packages start around $200 per person, and venue fees vary depending on the space, day of the week, and time of year. Full wedding packages typically range from $20,000 to $40,000 or more depending on guest count, season, and vendor choices. Montaluce also offers elopement and micro wedding packages for smaller groups. I recommend visiting their website to get an accurate quote for your specific celebration.

How many guests can Montaluce accommodate?

The property can host ceremonies and receptions of up to 175 guests. Smaller spaces like the Tuscany Room and Tuscany Terrace are available for more intimate gatherings.

Can I bring my own vendors?

Outside vendors are welcome, but they must be licensed and insured professionals. Montaluce provides a list of recommended vendors for anything not handled in-house, but you’re not required to use it as long as your chosen vendors meet the venue’s requirements.

Is there on-site lodging?

Yes! Montaluce Winery has on-site villas available for rental, which is a great option for couples, wedding parties, or family members who want to stay close to the venue. Downtown Dahlonega is also just a short drive away with additional lodging options.

Does Montaluce Winery have indoor ceremony options in case of rain?

Yes. The Wine Production Room is a beautiful indoor ceremony alternative – moody, candlelit, and genuinely stunning in its own right. The covered terraces also provide shelter without giving up the open-air feel entirely.

Can I have my engagement session or proposal at Montaluce?

Photography sessions and proposals are welcome during business hours on days when no private events are booked. Professional photography sessions are permitted Monday through Thursday and are self-guided. It’s worth checking the venue’s event calendar before planning your visit.

Can we include our dog in the wedding?

Dogs are allowed in designated outdoor areas and at ceremonies held on the lawn near the vineyard. I recommend checking directly with the venue if you’re planning to include your pup, since indoor areas have different restrictions.

Is Montaluce accessible for guests with mobility needs?

Yes. Montaluce Winery is fully handicap accessible, so all guests can move through the property comfortably.

Meet Your Photographer

I’m Raven Shutley — Atlanta wedding and elopement photographer obsessed with catching the “holy shit!” magic you’ll brag about for decades. 17+ years. 250+ love-soaked, champagne-soaked, sometimes-rain-soaked weddings. Zero boring ones.

The best days are full of “did that really happen?” moments and quiet ones alike: yelling vows over a waterfall, grandma losing her mind over your shoes, strangers cheering you on in the street. A dad-turned-unofficial paparazzi, a sibling choking up mid-speech, that deep breath the moment you realize you’re married.

The goal? A full story that’s wild, real, beautiful — so anyone looking at your photos feels like they were there.
