Piedmont Park Engagement Photos: The Complete 2025 Guide

Piedmont Park can be a perfect setting for engagement photos because of the variety of locations and because of its vast expanse, even if it’s a busy day, you can always find a little pocket of space to be a little more secluded. Piedmont Park engagement photos make it easy to get nature and cityscape in one location, so for anyone looking to represent those two aspects of their personality, this could be a great choice.

Why Piedmont Park Is Perfect For Engagement Photos

Piedmont Park is a 211 acre public park and staple for Atlanta life. It’s open year-round and has tons of different features to explore. There are several miles of paved paths perfect for running, biking, walking, and inline skating {plus you can even rent bikes and skates nearby in case you didn’t bring your own!}, meadows and fields, fishing available in Lake Clara Meer, an off-leash dog park, an education garden, playgrounds, picnic areas, large oak and magnolia trees, and multiple locations with stunning views of the Atlanta skyline. There are also three different historic landmarks throughout the park that each serve as wedding venues: Magnolia Hall, the Clara Meer Dock, and the Greystone building.

1) Skyline Picture Point

The most iconic shot in the park, and for good reason. Amazing view of the skyline and lake.

2) Clara Meer Gazebo & Bridge

Classic Piedmont Park landmark with a view of the lake and plenty of greenery.

3) The Meadow

Large open greenspace with a spectacular view of the skyline, located right outside Park Tavern.

4) Park Drive Bridge

Built in 1926, this hidden gem is a historic bridge located along a path and lots of greenery.

5) Stone Staircase by Picnic Shelters & Bandstand

Another iconic shot at Piedmont Park, this stonework staircase boasts a shot of the skyline, beautiful trees, and ivy-covered walls.

6) Active Oval

Another fantastic skyline option, this open field is often full of runners and playing sports teams.

7) Noguchi Playscape

A playground by designer and sculptor Isamu Noguchi; a set of colorful architectural playground pieces.

8) Clara Meer Dock

Also used as a wedding venue, this dock is one of the best spots in the park for sunsets and a view of the lake.

9) Oak Hill

One of the best spots for combining the skyline and sunsets, and the rolling hill is great for picnics.

Piedmont Park FAQs

  • What are the costs associated with photography at Piedmont Park?
There is no fee or permit needed for Piedmont Park engagement photos. Similarly, there is no admission fee into the park.
  • What are the times we could have a session?
Piedmont Park is open from 6:00 am until 11:00 pm every day, so you have plenty of options for the time of your session.
  • What is the parking situation at Piedmont?
There is ample parking available: there is typically free street parking available, but my recommendation is always going to be the parking structure accessible by the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The small fee is worth the ease of access!
  • Is the park accessible and easy to get to? Are there restrooms?
The park has picnic shelters, tables, and benches, as well as public restrooms. It’s located near the highway so it’s centrally located in Atlanta and is easily accessible from all parts of the city. There are stairs as well as ramps in most of the locations at the park, and it has well-maintained paths and facilities.

What To Wear For Your
Engagement Session

One of the neat things about Piedmont Park is its versatility: you can dress it up or down. You could show up in evening wear and emphasize the “night on the town” skyline or wear something fun and casual for running down the paths with your dog. Most of my couples bring a second – more casual – outfit so they get some variety with both more and less dressy looks. Be sure that you’re comfortable walking in the shoes you choose! No matter where you’re going, you’re likely going to be walking a bit.

My only specific recommendation for most people would be no bright red – because of the color cast it throws on your skin – or a lot of green – since you’ll be surrounded by green, you want to try to stand out a little by wearing something else!

Dressing for the weather is going to be the biggest consideration, here, since there’s so much diversity in background and location. Be sure that you’re going to be as comfortable as you can be while taking these photos!

Piedmont Park Engagement Photographer

Over my 16+ years of photographing couples, I’ve worked at Piedmont Park plenty of times, and each experience is unique. I always feel there’s something new to discover and I love following my couples to see what their favorite aspects of the park are.

I love combining the park with an additional location, if there’s time! We could stay for the duration of the session, like for Conrad & Jacqui’s sunset session, or we could start at-home to capture a slice of life moment before taking a walk through the park like for Marianna & Jonathan’s session, or we could start at the park and then head to another meaningful location like GA Tech’s campus as we did for Marissa & Janiel’s session.

Piedmont Park is such a big part of many peoples lives and relationship stories who live in Atlanta, so I love being able to include it in engagement sessions! Having your session at a place that holds meaning is one of my favorite parts about planning your session together.

PIEDMONT PARK ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS

Meet Your Photographer

I’m Raven Shutley — Atlanta wedding and elopement photographer obsessed with catching the “holy shit!” magic you’ll brag about for decades. 17+ years. 250+ love-soaked, champagne-soaked, sometimes-rain-soaked weddings. Zero boring ones.

The best days are full of “did that really happen?” moments and quiet ones alike: yelling vows over a waterfall, grandma losing her mind over your shoes, strangers cheering you on in the street. A dad-turned-unofficial paparazzi, a sibling choking up mid-speech, that deep breath the moment you realize you’re married.

The goal? A full story that’s wild, real, beautiful — so anyone looking at your photos feels like they were there.
