Gabe & Ivy’s wedding at Agnes Scott College was one for the books – literally. Gabe went to school here, so every corner of campus held a memory for him, and now both he and Ivy will have an even more beautiful memory here: their wedding day. I actually met Gabe through Rowan & Kelsey, so it was lovely to reconnect with them. Fun fact, I also considered attending Agnes Scott College {why wouldn’t you? It’s absolutely beautiful here!}, which made the day even more exciting. It felt like coming home to so many of us there. Ivy & Gabe are the sweetest people, and it was truly an honor to be part of their celebration at the college.

Getting Ready & First Look in the Chapel

Ivy & Gabe prepared for their ceremony in the downstairs area of the chapel at Agnes Scott College. Gabe prepared in the main fellowship area, while Ivy prepared in one of the side rooms. I loved that while they were preparing, there was a tea ceremony going on. It was amazing. Ivy & Gabe both knew that while they wanted to plan for a first look, they did not want something with a big fanfare. So, their first look was chill and effortless with Ivy just stepping into the room from next door, no big production, just them, surrounded by their people. A lot of my couples have been leaning into relaxed first looks and I just have to say, I’m here for it. Gabe had the most adorable reaction to seeing his soon-to-be-wife and after that, we began to walk around campus.

Any tips for future couples on how to prepare for their wedding photos?

Maybe to keep track of time so you can make sure to get photos with all the people you want (Raven’s planning process helps with this too). Time flies during a wedding!

Wedding Portraits at Agnes Scott College

We had special permission to explore the library, a place that meant so much to Gabe when he was a student. He walked Ivy through the stacks, pointing out spots, sharing stories, letting her into that part of his life. It was the kind of quiet, intimate moment that makes a wedding day feel so damned real. As we wound our way back to the chapel, I remember watching Ivy & Gabe and how it was sinking in that their wedding day was happening.

What did you love about your venue/wedding location?

We loved that the Agnes Scott staff let us take photos in the library! We are both nerds and had a vaguely book-themed wedding so it was perfect. Plus, we also loved the comprehensive reception package Wahoo offered. They are very experienced and made the planning process smooth.

Ceremony at Julia Thompson Smith Chapel

Their friends sang shape note music for the ceremony, which was incredible with the acoustics of the space. Ivy & Gabe actually live in Texas, but came back to Atlanta to be married-  and their pastor flew in from Texas to officiate the ceremony, which is just really freaking cool.  They had a lovely ceremony, including parts where they had both Ivy’s mom’s wedding veil draped over them by family members and a tradition from the Philippines. Ivy & Gabe’s ceremony truly felt like a coming together of their loved ones – and a new start for them.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?

We both loved the ceremony. It was so lovely to see all our friends and family from so many different locations and times in our lives all in one place. The organ and congregational singing was awesome.

Atlanta Wedding Reception at Wahoo! Grill

After their beautiful ceremony concluded, it was off to Wahoo! Grill for a reception packed with personality. I love Wahoo! Grill and getting to see how Ivy & Gabe brought their own lives and stories to the space was so fun. Their reception was very book based and one of my favorite details was the crossword they gave their guests, where all the answers came from their relationship. Ivy & Gabe had a Table of Tables, which was their seating chart, and they had a spot for guests to leave book/music recommendations in lieu of a guest book. It was absolutely beautiful and a wonderful way to bring who they are into their celebration.

Ivy & Gabe took the time to walk around and spend time with each guest. It was so special to watch as they hugged and welcomed everyone. I love when couples are intentional with their time, focusing on what matters most to them on their wedding day.

What were you most anxious or nervous about regarding your wedding day and how did it turn out?

Gabe was slightly concerned we wouldn’t be able to achieve the look he envisioned with the handmade decor. But many friends and family members helped us finish everything and it looked beautiful.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?

The guests are ultimately coming to see the couple and will remember time together over the logistics of the event itself. Even if something isn’t shiny and perfect, friends and family are there to celebrate and support you.

If it works for you and your people, consider having a morning/brunch wedding! We got to rest for a few hours after the reception and had a casual after party in the evening too. Felt like we really maximized the day.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?

We don’t think so! We really enjoyed the day.

As a documentary photographer, I focus on capturing honest, natural moments that reflect who you are. My goal is to show what the day feels like—whether it’s candid interactions, meaningful details, or group celebrations—without relying on stiff poses or scripted shots. Agnes Scott College is a perfect match for a wedding with this approach, with its mix of historic architecture, open spaces, and versatile settings that make for timeless, personal photos.

My advice for this venue:

  • This couple opted for a relaxed first look – which I’m a huge fan of – and the getting ready rooms layout worked really well for this, since they’re right next to each other and fairly public. If you’re looking for a more private moment, I’d opt to have your first look outside where you can find some space for just the two of you and your photographer.
  • For couples photos, walk the campus and either visit locations that are personally important to you or explore where curiosity takes you. Gabe & Ivy and I wandered the library – with special permissions – and the great tree walks, getting them both indoor and outdoor photos and fully including the personality of the venue.
  • A daytime ceremony, like this couple had, with the sun streaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the chapel is stunning.
