Karen & Jeremy’s wedding was such a joyful one to be part of. Their plans shifted a few times, but seeing it all come together so perfectly made it even more special. They got married at Congaree & Penn in Jacksonville. This is definitely one of my favorite venues. It’s a working farm with some Florida flair, with cider made on-site (and yes, it’s delicious), animals wandering around, and trees draped in Spanish moss right along the river. Add in a glowing sunset and it was pure magic for Karen & Jeremy’s big day!

Getting Ready & First Look
Karen got ready with all of her people in a nearby Airbnb, and then did a first look with a bunch of her loved ones, which was super nice. I love when first looks are extended to family – not just your partner. Karen’s included her close friends, cousins, and her mom. It was a really special moment for all of them {and a great reminder that your day is about what YOU want}.

After her first look with her family and loved ones, Karen actually got back out of her wedding gown to meet Jeremy at the venue. They had a first look that was… well, not what we’d normally call a first look. Instead, they met onsite at Congaree & Penn in their plain clothes for a quiet moment together before the ceremony. It allowed them the best of both worlds: the comfort of a first look with your person and the big reveal during the ceremony.

What did you love about your venue/wedding location?
Loved the laid back feel! It was easy going and low pressure since it was all on one property.

Ceremony at Congaree & Penn
Like I mentioned, in addition to being a working farm, Congaree & Penn feels very Florida. There’s big open fields with Spanish moss and it’s just so lovely. Karen & Jeremy’s ceremony was held under a big tree dripping in moss. Karen walked herself down the aisle to meet Jeremy, and their pup Four, at the end of the aisle. It was everything. Before the ceremony, Karen & Jeremy asked their guests to participate in a ring warming ceremony, which is always lovely.

Most memorable moment from your wedding day?
Jeremy’s vows

What were you most anxious or nervous about regarding your wedding day and how did it turn out?
Anxious about my vows, but everything turned out okay! I didn’t stutter or cry like I thought I would.

Florida Wedding Reception
After the ceremony, Karen & Jeremy welcomed their guests to their wedding reception. They had one of my all-time favorite favors: blind dates with a book. Karen & Jeremy hand selected books to give to their guests and Karen wrapped them all in craft paper. Then they wrote little clues on each book and their guests could pick one to take home. It was the most brilliant favor! Their guests were able to enjoy the night under the stars and string lights for the rest of the reception. I love that they had big long tables with all of their people for family style seating. They also chose a paint by number for their guest book {so freaking fun} and everyone had the chance to work on that throughout the night, too!

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
Pretend it’s a private event for you and your partner and let everything else fall into place outside of those priorities.

If you could do it all over, would you change anything?
I’d add more time to the venue so the reception could go on longer. Maybe have an after party for closest friends/family.

Any tips for future couples on how to prepare for their wedding photos?
Set the expectation with your guests that the photos are documentary style and it’s not a Photo Booth. I got sucked into the expectation that everyone would get a photo with us and it ment we ran out of time for the more documentary style photos.

Congrats again Karen & Jeremy! I love how your Florida wedding day came to life. It was so special to be with you – and your loved ones – to celebrate this amazing moment in your lives!

Jacksonville FL Documentary Wedding Photography
As a documentary photographer, I’m all about capturing the real stuff—quiet glances, joyful chaos, the unscripted in-betweens that actually feel like you. That’s why a Congaree & Penn wedding is such a perfect match for my approach. The natural beauty of the farm, from its moss-draped oaks to wide open fields and winding trails, creates a setting that doesn’t need much dressing up. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, be present, and let the moments unfold—while I quietly document the magic.
My advice for this venue:
- While the venue does have a small area available for getting ready, it’s part of the main bathroom space—which can be a bit tight. I recommend getting ready off-site and arriving dressed and ready to go. That way, you’ll feel more relaxed, have plenty of space, and won’t have to worry about shuffling around bags or steamers. Plus, it lets you step into the venue already in the moment and ready to celebrate.
- A sunset ceremony by the big romantic moss-covered tree is unbelievable for photos! We got some truly incredible lighting during and after the ceremony.
- Couple photos are excellent throughout the property, but the walk from the ceremony back to the reception space is one of my favorites, plus it goes right by some of the farm’s animal inhabitants.

Congaree & Penn is more than just a venue—it’s a place where agriculture, hospitality, and storytelling come together. You’ll find manicured olive, pecan, and mayhaw orchards, fields of wildflowers, and scenic river views, all framed by towering live oaks. And did I mention the goats, emus, ducks, and horses? If you’re planning a Congaree & Penn wedding, you’ll also be treated to a farm-to-table dining experience that highlights seasonal, locally grown ingredients. It’s intentional, elegant, and made for savoring.
Ceremony Locations at Congaree & Penn
One of the most iconic ceremony spots for a Congaree & Penn wedding is beneath a century-old live oak tree. It’s romantic, naturally shaded, and surrounded by the peaceful hush of the farm’s untouched beauty. Bench seating is included for your guests, and you can add on one of the farm’s charming wagons to carry folks to and from the site—especially helpful if you’re in formal shoes.
Eloping or planning something more intimate? The farm also offers elopement packages for up to 30 guests, including the option to dine among the grapevines after you say “I do.”

Reception Venues at Congaree & Penn
When it comes to hosting your reception, a Congaree & Penn wedding gives you two standout options—each with its own vibe.
The Quonset Hut
This distinctive curved structure is a signature of the farm. It’s open-air but covered, blending natural surroundings with industrial-chic touches. The Quonset Hut accommodates up to 100 guests (150 with added rentals) and is available year-round. Rental fees vary by season and day, ranging from $1,500 to $10,000, plus a food and beverage minimum of $50 per guest.
The Roost (Opening Fall 2025)
If you’re planning your Congaree & Penn wedding for late 2025 or beyond, you’ll have the option of The Roost—a brand-new reception space currently under construction. It’s being designed with comfort and style in mind: space heaters and fans, full place settings, and room for up to 100 guests. Introductory rates range from $1,000 to $5,000, with a $40 per guest food and beverage minimum.
No matter your choice, both spaces blend thoughtful design with Congaree & Penn’s signature hospitality.
Photography Opportunities at the Location
As a photographer, I can confidently say that a Congaree & Penn wedding gives you an endless variety of photo backdrops. We’re talking light-drenched orchard rows, golden meadows, mossy trees, peaceful rivers, and quiet forest trails. The natural beauty means you won’t need a lot of extra décor—it’s already breathtaking. Whether we’re capturing big laughs, soft moments, or dancing under the stars, this place brings out the magic.
FAQs About Congaree & Penn Weddings
How can I contact Congaree and Penn?
Phone service can be spotty on the farm, so the best way to get in touch is by email (hello@congareeandpenn.com) or text (904-604-5131). You’re welcome to call, but you’ll usually get a faster response by email or text.
Do you offer a place to get ready?
There isn’t a dedicated getting ready space onsite, so I highly recommend arriving dressed and ready. You’ll avoid the stress of last-minute logistics and be able to jump straight into celebration mode.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Well-behaved dogs on non-retractable leashes are welcome. Just make sure they stay away from the farm’s resident animals and are supervised at all times—especially during dinner.
What happens if it rains?
Your Congaree & Penn wedding will go on, rain or shine. Both reception venues are covered, but you’ll still want to dress for the weather and consider event insurance for peace of mind.

Can I drive to the ceremony site?
No personal vehicles are allowed past the parking lot. Guests and gear will need to travel on foot or via a farm wagon (which you can rent by the hour).
What’s the weather like?
This is Florida—expect warm, humid summers and cooler winters. The venue provides fans and heaters as needed, but outdoor comfort is all about preparation. Bug spray is your best friend during the warmer months.
Is the farm open during weddings?
Yes—for elopements and smaller events during the day, parts of the farm may remain open to the public. Your ceremony and dining spaces will remain private.
