Thomas and Emma’s Henderson Acres wedding was part two of their overall celebration, because they got to have two very different days with loved ones. Day one was a smaller ceremony and dinner in Atlanta at the Swan Coach House and Barcelona Wine Bar. Day two was a bigger celebration at their original plan of Henderson Acres, complete with incredible mountain views.

They wore their wedding clothes again, their people gathered again, and they stood up and chose each other, again. The toasts, the dances, the big party energy. All of it was saved for a day with room to breathe. And because everyone already knew the love story, they could let go of expectations and just be fully present for the celebration.

That kind of day, layered with meaning, is exactly what I’m here to document.

With a documentary style of photography, I’m looking for the quiet and real things: glances, chaos, unscripted in-betweens that feel like you. That’s why a Henderson Acres wedding is such a perfect match for my approach. Perched atop a mountain on eleven acres, this vintage, luxurious property offers breathtaking long and short-range mountain views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

My biggest advice for this venue:

Lean into that gorgeous light. The wrap-around veranda at golden hour is stunning for portraits, but don’t sleep on the ceremony stage earlier in the day when the mountain light is soft and directional. The 180-degree views also mean your guests will naturally spread out across the property during cocktail hour, leading to some of the best candid moments, so give yourselves time to wander!

There are a lot of mountain venues near Asheville. Henderson Acres is the one people can’t stop talking about after the wedding. Not just because of the views – though those are genuinely hard to beat – it’s the whole package. The stone and wood and thoughtful design. The owner Brett, who’s responsive and present. The way the property just feels taken care of. If you’re deep in the venue search, this one is worth a serious look.

About Henderson Acres

Henderson Acres sits on top of a mountain in Weaverville, NC, about 20 minutes north of downtown Asheville. Eleven acres of hills and forest, with Blue Ridge Mountain views in pretty much every direction. Far enough up that it feels like an escape. Close enough that your guests aren’t stressed about getting there.

The property is exclusively yours when you book it. You get the three-level vintage home, the Appalachian stone ceremony stage, a 1,700-square-foot reception deck, and a backyard pasture with 180-degree views. Both sides of the wedding party have their own get-ready suite, which sounds small but makes a real difference on the morning of.

Open vendor policy means you bring whoever you want, or you can start with their trusted vendor list if you’re still building your team. A resident event manager is there on the day keeping everything on track. And if you want to turn it into a full weekend, the venue sleeps up to 14 guests in rooms that look out over the mountains.

Ceremony Locations at Henderson Acres

The ceremony stage is Appalachian stone, built into the landscape, framed by mountains on every side. It’s one of those spots where you don’t have to do much. The setting carries it. Florals look great here, and so does nothing at all. Wildflowers, greenery, an elaborate arch, bare stone. All of it works because the bones are already so good.

The pasture around the stage gives everyone room to breathe. Guests aren’t stacked on top of each other, which means the energy of the ceremony stays calm and present. That matters more than people realize until they’re standing in it.

Reception Venues at Henderson Acres

The reception deck is 1,700 square feet and sits right up against those mountain views. Full seated dinner, dance floor, the whole thing, and it still feels gathered and warm rather than spread thin. There’s a retractable rain cover that goes up at the flip of a button if the weather turns, which means you can skip the tent rental and stop checking the forecast every hour the week of your wedding.

When the night starts winding down, people migrate to the wrap-around veranda. Every time. It’s just that kind of space. Mountain air, good conversation, nobody quite ready to call it. The venue also has a full kitchen for caterers, a full bar setup, and enough on-site amenities that your vendors will arrive and feel like someone actually thought about them.

Photography Opportunities at Henderson Acres

I’ll be honest. Henderson Acres is one of the easiest venues I’ve ever shot. Not because it doesn’t require intention, but because the light and the landscape are doing so much of the work. Here’s where I spend my time:

The ceremony stage. Stone, mountains, depth. It photographs beautifully from fifty feet back and from five feet away. You don’t have to manufacture anything here.

The wrap-around veranda. Late afternoon light on this veranda is soft and warm and wraps around people in a way that makes every portrait feel a little effortless. Build time here into your day.

The pasture and views. 180 degrees of Blue Ridge Mountains. I’ve shot here at golden hour and at sunrise and both are genuinely special. If you’re open to an early morning session, this elevation is worth getting up for.

The interior. Over 3,500 square feet of vintage home with stone, warm wood, and real design throughout. Getting-ready coverage in here looks nothing like a generic hotel suite. It looks like your wedding.

Cocktail hour on eleven acres. Guests spread out, find their people, settle into little clusters across the property. That’s where a lot of my favorite frames from any Henderson Acres wedding come from. Just let it happen.
