Kathryn and Creighton had originally planned to celebrate with a few more family members, but pivoted when some folks got sick right before Christmas and created a different two-day plan for their wedding. What stayed: keeping it small & meaningful, with a bigger celebration later. What they ended up with was a beautifully intimate elopement that fit them perfectly.

They chose Hidden Cove Park for their ceremony: a neighborhood park near their home, the kind of place they walk through on the way to the gym or when they’re both working from home and need some air. Two close friends for witnesses with a third as their officiant.

There’s something that happens at an intimate park elopement in Decatur when the location actually means something to the couple. Hidden Cove wasn’t chosen because it photographs well (although it is beautiful). It was chosen because it’s theirs, a place woven into the ordinary rhythm of their life together. That comes through in the photos in a way that a more formal backdrop doesn’t always allow.

After the ceremony we headed back to their house. One of their cats was immediately social. The other had opinions about the whole situation and spent the day in hiding. They popped champagne on the back porch, cut the cake, and then just settled into some of their favorite spots in the house — newly married & soaking it all in at a speed that felt right.

This is part one of Kathryn and Creighton’s story. Part two is coming.
