A Longleaf Vineyards wedding puts you in one of the most spectacular settings near Asheville: vineyard rows on one side, Blue Ridge Mountain views stretching for miles on the other. I’d been looking forward to Caroline & Conor’s fall wedding here for a long time, and shooting it alongside my friend and collaborator Plain with Sprinkles, it delivered everything I’d hoped for and then some.

About Longleaf Vineyards
Longleaf Vineyard sits in Marshall, North Carolina, about 20 to 25 minutes from downtown Asheville. Founded by Wendy and Brian Knowles in 2017, the property sits at an elevated point with panoramic mountain views, on a clear day, you can see up to 70 miles, including peaks like Mount Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain, and Mount Pisgah.
The venue is intentionally boutique, holding around 120 guests, which keeps the atmosphere intimate and unhurried rather than rushed. Ceremonies take place at the overlook, framed by vineyard rows and mountain panorama, while cocktail hour moves to the covered pavilion and tasting room patio. Receptions happen under a large white tent with chandelier lighting that transforms completely depending on your decor. The wedding season runs May through October.

My advice for this venue: don’t over-plan your portrait time. Caroline & Conor didn’t want a long session pulled away from their guests, and we kept things focused instead of dragging it out, getting strong images quickly so they could get back to their people. The light here does a lot of the work for you anyway, especially at golden hour, so you don’t need hours of posing to get something beautiful.

Reception Venues at Longleaf Vineyards
The reception tent is where Longleaf really transforms. What looks like a simple white tent structure becomes something else entirely once decor and lighting come together, chandeliers overhead, personal details woven throughout. Caroline & Conor’s reception included painted signage and script work from Freckles and Ink, camp pennants Caroline made herself, and a citrus-decorated wedding cake instead of a traditional floral one, all small touches that made the space feel entirely theirs.

Photography Opportunities at Longleaf Vineyards
The mountain light at golden hour here is genuinely exceptional. Because the property sits at elevation with no trees or structures blocking the horizon, you get warm, directional light without a fight to find it, though the window for that perfect sunset light is short. The vineyard rows themselves are a strong photography element year-round, offering lines, depth, and texture, and they’re especially striking in fall when the vines start turning color. The wine cavern and pavilion areas add welcome shade and architectural variety for midday portraits, so not everything depends on open sky.

A Real Life Longleaf Vineyards Wedding: Caroline & Conor
Caroline & Conor’s Longleaf Vineyards wedding leaned fully into fall without ever feeling costume-y. Their palette, clementine, burgundy, pink, orange, and warm yellow, felt completely intentional and completely theirs. Conor wore a deep green velvet jacket that looked incredible against the mountain backdrop, and Caroline’s gown, a satin skirt paired with a fitted top, finished the look perfectly.
Their ceremony took place at the overlook, vines on one side, mountains in every other direction. Their vows were some of the most vulnerable I’ve heard at a wedding, both of them speaking openly about giving each other space to grow individually within their relationship. I don’t say this about every ceremony, but I cried.
Plain with Sprinkles designed a lounge in front of the venue’s wine cavern for portraits and wedding party photos, giving us a distinctive setting that felt like more than just another backdrop. Caroline & Conor didn’t want a long portrait session, so we kept things focused before letting them get back to their guests, then returned for a short sunset session as the light dropped over the mountains, cold air, golden light, exactly what the day needed.
Their reception carried the same intentional feeling through every detail: painted signage from Freckles and Ink, handmade camp pennants honoring their friend group, and a citrus-topped wedding cake in place of florals. The dance floor stayed full and joyfully chaotic all night long.
Caroline & Conor, thank you for trusting me with a day that felt this personal. It was everything a fall mountain wedding should be.
