The best rooftop engagement photos aren’t just about the view — they’re about finding a couple whose energy is big enough to match it. Ayana and Lenwood are exactly that couple.
From the start of our conversation, they knew what they wanted: a session that showed both sides of who they are. Their words were “chill” and “bougie.” What I heard was: two vibes, two locations, one awesome time.

The Session
We started at Woodruff Park in downtown Atlanta — one of the city’s most underused photography locations. The International Peace Fountain’s water wall stretches more than 150 feet and makes for a dramatic backdrop that most couples walk right past without realizing what they have. Ayana came dressed for it: a silver blue dress with ruffled details that moved beautifully in front of the water. Lenwood had his black blazer on. They looked fantastic and they knew it, which is exactly the energy you want at the start of a session.
We wandered the park, took in the city, and let the downtown Atlanta atmosphere do what it does. Watching Ayana and Lenwood together — the ease of them, the way they make each other laugh — made this part of the day feel completely effortless.
Then they changed.

Rooftop Portraits at St. Julep, Buckhead
St. Julep sits on the ninth floor of the Kimpton Sylvan Hotel at 374 E Paces Ferry Rd NE in Buckhead, and the views from up there are genuinely hard to beat. Panoramic Atlanta skyline in every direction, an indoor/outdoor layout that keeps the space usable year-round, and design details throughout that give you something interesting to work with no matter where you point a camera. One of my favorite backdrops up there is the rainbow wall of glasses behind the bar — colorful, graphic, completely distinctive.
Ayana and Lenwood in their casual outfits, up on that rooftop, with the city spread out behind them — this is the version of Atlanta engagement photography I love most. Real people, real relationship, the city as a backdrop rather than a prop. They’re goofs together in the best way, and that came through in every frame.
St. Julep has been generous about allowing photography sessions on the rooftop, and it’s one of the locations I keep coming back to for exactly this kind of work.

Why the Two-Location Format Works
Ayana and Lenwood’s session worked because the structure matched who they actually are. The park gave us movement, texture, and the energy of downtown Atlanta. The rooftop gave us views, atmosphere, and a more elevated feel. Two outfits, two moods, one cohesive gallery.
This is something worth thinking about when you’re planning your own engagement session: you don’t have to pick one vibe. If you love a good cocktail on a rooftop AND you love wandering through a city park, build a session that has both. The outfit change gives you a natural reset, and the location change keeps the gallery from feeling one-note.

Atlanta Rooftop Engagement Photo FAQs
Where are the best spots for rooftop engagement photos in Atlanta? St. Julep at the Kimpton Sylvan Hotel in Buckhead is one of my favorites — ninth-floor views, great design details, and an indoor/outdoor setup that works in almost any weather. There are several other rooftop bars and hotels across Atlanta worth exploring depending on the vibe you’re going for.
Do you need permission to shoot engagement photos at a rooftop bar in Atlanta? Yes — always reach out to the venue beforehand. Most places are happy to accommodate a session, especially during off-peak hours, but showing up without asking puts everyone in an awkward position. I handle this as part of session planning for every couple I work with.
What should we wear for rooftop engagement photos? Think about the backdrop. Rooftop settings tend to have a more elevated, editorial feel — so outfits that lean slightly dressier tend to photograph well. That said, if your relationship is more casual, wear that. Authenticity always wins over aesthetics. Ayana and Lenwood did both in the same session and it worked perfectly.
Can you combine a rooftop location with other spots in Atlanta? Absolutely — and I’d encourage it. Pairing a rooftop like St. Julep with a downtown park like Woodruff Park, the Beltline, or a neighborhood in your area of the city gives you range in your gallery and makes the session feel more like a day spent in your city than a photoshoot.
How do I book an engagement session in Atlanta? Get in touch here and tell me a little about you both — where you like to spend time, what feels like you, and what you’re hoping to walk away with. We’ll build something from there.
