7 Reasons to Hire Raven as Your Photographer

When you fill out the contact form on my website, you may notice that one of my questions is “What do you like about my photography?” No, I’m not just fishing for compliments, though I’d be lying if I said the responses didn’t make me blush!

I ask for a variety of reasons. Not only do I want to make sure that we’re on the same page stylistically, I also want to know what’s important to you and what you’re looking for. Plus, if we’re a fantastic fit, I want to know why right from the start!

Over the years I’ve found it to be such an incredibly insightful and telling question. I’ve had all kinds of responses, from the fact that my work is emotional and colorful to the love of diversity and being able to see yourself in my work, it’s all vital to me! There have been far too many submissions to list them all, but here are some of the most common themes we hear:

1. You Want to Capture the Genuine Moments of Your Wedding Day

“You capture genuine moments and emotion comes through in your photos. Shots show creativity, but they’re also natural and seem to capture the personalities of the people you’re photographing.”

My whole goal is to accurately document you and your partner and your true personalities on your wedding day, and that means I place a huge importance on ensuring you’re relaxed and comfortable when we work together.

2. You Don’t Want a Cookie Cutter Vibe

“Apart from the fact you are an amazing human being, your photography isn’t cookie cutter and is out of the box which I love so much.”

Who, ME? Out of the box?! I’m so glad you noticed 🥲 I love finding moments throughout the day to get a little creative with your photos.

3. You Need a Queer-Friendly Photographer

“I love that your photography focuses more on the love and fun than the frills of a lot of wedding photography. I also love that you are explicitly queer-friendly; my two moms will be walking me down the aisle.”

Providing a safe space for my clients is so important to me! No couple should have to worry about whether their relationship will be celebrated or if their friends and family will be safe, and I love getting to work with all my LGBTQ+ clients.

4. You Want Your Photos to Look Natural

“I love the natural, bright feel and how the couples in your photos look happy, relaxed, and natural as opposed to overly posed.”

There’s no need to interrupt the joyful moments for a posed picture when you already look this good!

5. You Want a Photographer Who Is as Chill as You Are

“Easy-going, casual, fun-style.”

This is a phrase that I’ve heard used to describe my photography style time and time again! And that’s because there’s no reason to be stressed about your photos because your joy and love will come through even if we’re simply hanging out together on your porch for an in-home photo session.

6. You Need to Feel Confident That Your Skin Tone Will Be Captured Accurately

“We are both African American, and I love how you captured deeper skin tones so beautifully.”

Everyone deserves to feel confident that their wedding photos will be true to their actual skin tone! This is sadly a skill that not all photographers have, and that’s why it’s so important to me to showcase a wide variety of skin tones in my portfolio.

7. You Don’t Want to Forget to Enjoy Yourself!

“Clearly, you are marketing your playfulness and we consider ourselves “quirky.” I hope those two brands align.”

What can I say?! Quirky is most certainly my jam! One thing is for certain, if we work together we are bound to have a great time!
